Gluten-Free Scones – A Sweet Start to Your Day

Breakfast is always better with something sweet. Try my Gluten-Free Scones – they’re easy, and tasty…and no one will know their gluten free!

Breakfast Bliss: Gluten-Free Scones Recipe

There’s something magical about starting your day with a warm, homemade treat. These Gluten-Free Scones are the perfect way to bring a little sweetness to your mornings. Whether you’re enjoying them with a cup of coffee or tea, they’re light, flaky, and packed with flavor—so good that no one will guess they’re gluten-free!

Simple Ingredients, Big Flavor

These scones are made with simple, pantry-friendly ingredients that come together beautifully. The gluten-free flour creates a tender crumb, while butter adds richness and flakiness. A touch of sugar provides just the right amount of sweetness, making these scones versatile enough to pair with jam, clotted cream, or even a drizzle of honey.

Why You’ll Love These Scones

These scones aren’t just delicious—they’re incredibly easy to make! With minimal prep time and straightforward steps, they’re perfect for busy mornings or weekend brunches. Plus, they’re customizable: add dried fruit, chocolate chips, or citrus zest to make them uniquely yours.

A Recipe That Brings People Together

Food has always been about connection, and these scones are no exception. Whether you’re sharing them with loved ones or baking them for yourself, they bring comfort and joy to any table. Their rustic charm and irresistible flavor make them a breakfast favorite you’ll want to make again and again.

Ingredients

These ingredients come together to make Gluten-Free Scones that are both flavorful and perfect for those with gluten sensitivities.

  1. Gluten-Free Flour:
Flaky and tender gluten-free crust made from a mix of gluten-free flours, butter, and a touch of sweetener. This provides the perfect base for the galette, offering a nutty flavor. Follow the instructions found here for my gluten free pie dough recipe.
  2. Almond Flour:
Adds a subtle nutty flavor and richness to the gluten-free crust. Almond flour also helps create a tender texture while keeping the dough sturdy enough to hold the filling.
  3. Tapioca Starch:
A key ingredient for binding and elasticity in gluten-free baking, tapioca starch helps create a pliable dough and contributes to the crust’s crispness once baked.
  4. Xanthan Gum
Essential for gluten-free recipes, xanthan gum acts as a stabilizer and binder, mimicking the elasticity of gluten to ensure the dough holds together beautifully.
  5. Unsalted Butter:
Cold butter is key for creating flaky layers in the scones. Cut it into small cubes before mixing.
  6. Sugar:
Adds just the right amount of sweetness without overpowering the flavor.
  7. Baking Powder:
Ensures the scones rise beautifully and have a light texture.
  8. Salt:
Balances the sweetness and enhances the overall flavor of the scones.
  9. Sour Cream:
Brings the dough together while keeping it soft and moist.
  10. Vanilla Extract:
A touch of vanilla extract adds warmth and depth to the scones. (Eliminate for savory scones.)
  11. Optional Mix-Ins:
Dried fruit, berries, baking chips (chocolate, etc.), or citrus zest can be added for extra flavor. Or go savory with cheese, peppers, onion, bacon, sausage, or herbs.

Sweet topping ideas: butter, mascarpone, whip cream, jam, fruit compote, honey.

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F; line a baking sheet with parchment and set asside.

  2. Whisk together dry ingredients. (Or pulse together in a food processor for 5 pulses.)

  3. Cut butter into ¼” pieces and freeze for 15 minutes.

  4. Using your fingers mix the cold butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture is crumbly with pea-sized. (Or pulse together in a food processor – 20 pulses until crumbly.)
