Hi – I’m Steve and welcome to my blog, “Steve’s in the Kitchen“!
I am the primary cook for my family – I’ve been on a journey of learning how to cook and bake gluten-free meals for nearly six years. This all started when my wife, Lisa, was diagnosed with Celiac disease. Her doctor recommended eliminating all foods containing wheat, dairy, eggs, and soy from her diet.
I started researching and experimenting. I made a commitment to cooking and baking gluten-free for our family. Selfishly, I did not want to have to prepare two different meals (one for Lisa and another for my son and me). At the time I was working in the hi-tech industry working 12–16-hour days…so I needed to be efficient.
The challenge was on!
I had to learn about different ingredients, techniques, and recipes. This meant a lot of time researching, reading, and experimenting. I needed to find the best ways to make delicious meals and baking goods without gluten.
As my knowledge grew, I started testing recipes by using different gluten-free flour blends, and different techniques found online and cookbooks. Soon enough, I felt confident to begin experimenting and converting recipes to be gluten-free; as well as experimenting and creating my own gluten-free flour blend. And with practice came success – cooking and baking gluten-free meals and foods that were just as delicious, if not more so than food prepared with wheat-based gluten flour. My wife and son were happy eaters, I was not cooking two separate meals for our nightly dinner, and I found out that I loved the challenge of taking a recipe and making it gluten-free without sacrificing taste, or the fun of cooking.
In 2022, I decided to take a sabbatical from my demanding and fast-paced career in hi-tech. However, I knew I needed to do something to keep busy and I began cooking and baking even more. I didn’t want to stop there…so I created my blog, Steve’s in the Kitchen! Now, I find or create, test, and share frustration-free, gluten-free recipes with home cooks enabling them to cook and bake gluten-free foods, without giving up on flavor, texture, or the simple joy of cooking.
Here’s to good cooking and eating!
